On September 13th, Strands CIO and co-founder Dr. Marc Torrens joined Valley Digital Business School as a professor during the "In-Company Learning Day" held for the Technology and Operations Division at Banco Santander España.
The agenda for the full day included different topics related to Big Data in the Fintech industry such as Crowdlending, Blockchain, Regulation, and new Business Models.
Marc gave a 3-hour workshop entitled "Big Data as a driver of new services and financial business" with the aim of growing the digital skills of the participants, mainly senior project managers at Banco Santander.
In his session, Marc explained the Strands vision of how banks can leverage the transactional data they host to extract new knowledge and make customer insights actionable. This new customer intelligence data can then be applied to a multitude of new business models.
"The group was very motivated and together we engaged in discussions about new possibilities offered by applying Machine Learning techniques," said Marc. "We talked about the power of personalized recommendations, how to create relevant commercial offers through online banking or how to transform banking into a customer-centric experience. At the end of the day, it's all about shifting from a model based on financial services and products to one in which the bank understands the specific customer needs and offers personalized solutions."
